Musicale Meanderings

Missy Higgins' new stuff is hot!

That's all really I have to say on that.

This weekend went so awesome!
As the previous post implies - I had a nice Friday night, I did end up going to Rhymill Park instead of to the pub, and a girl who's been intriguing me since my first day at work came along too. Needless to say, we hit it off. Nathan and Eli, her and I hung out and had many a laugh (not the least of which was the salt-shaker war on the table of the Pancake Kitchen... our waiter was NOT impressed).
She got their approval.

Saturday I got to sleep in (huzzah!) then back to Rhymill with Eli, and with the good company of Sam for a little while, and Ashton and Emily we hit Chocolat where I was nice and bought yumminess for those who couldn't afford it. I couldn't either, but I was coming into money the next day. Then we hit The Garden, bought 2 smoothies which the 4 of us drank in shifts passing the cups anticlockwise after a sip so that at any given time 2 of us had a straw in our mouth.
Then to Rambutan Circus Collective where for a moment I became seven years old at the sight of the rather large drop down to the stage. So I rushed a few rows up and sat and rocked for a bit til I was cuddled enough to settle me. Then the performers came out and the drop was forgotten til we had to leave again.
The contortionist was simply dreamy, the MC man was an awesome hugger... they were all cute and VERY talented. We bought badges and tshirts. They didn't have any in my size so they offered to mail it... awwwww.

We walked the tightrope on the streetlines, where some people joined in, and it entertained those watching. We found and claimed a huggy security guard and made him ours. We also watched some escape artist, trapeze folk, and magic card tricks shows and wished to make them ours also. A nice boy at Higher Ground (awesome venue) served us cake and nachos respectively and was an absolute dream - another great hugger.... yes it was hugs all round all weekend.

We also bumped into (and hugged), and had photos and a nice conversation with, Dave Callan; who responded to my request for a photo with 'because you're in a pirate hat... you can do anything you want!'

Which leads me to Sunday. Eli and I went to see his show and fuck it was impressive. Not only was Dave Callan sporting a pirate hat and eyepatch and calling for cabin-boys for a night of pleasure (we were tempted to raise our hands), and not only did he point out my tie from onstage saying it was amazing, but the show itself was brilliant. Two indepedent projection screens, using a powerpoint presentation and a dvd player both controlled by him on the stage, and conversations with voice overs and himself on the screen... while in the interim of the entertainment and piratey fun he actually spoke about some cutting edge current issues. Basically saying we should all be nicer to each other.

Before this tho I attended the Family Fun Day in Willunga where I not only facepainted, but was asked to perform onstage where I gave a pretty kick-ass little gig with my acoustic guitar all mic'd up. I was impressed, and so were many others. My CD was asked for apparently, and I was invited back to play the Arts Centre at the Youth Recognition Awards - the pleasant double meaning of the situation making me smile slightly.... getting some recognition at the recognition awards but not in the same way as the nominees.

Anyway, the weekend has both given and taken money from me, with a little to spare for petrol to get to work and to pay off some more of my new guitar this week. Soon it shall be mine!

And on that note, I'm writing a new song and learning some new covers that I've just printed out. So I'm off to work on those.

I start work on Thursday night. So I'm in the middle of changing my sleep pattern to nights. I'm looking forward to it, tho I'm a little nervous :z
But I get to see my girl again, that's a plus... well, not my girl yet... but who knows?

Greetings from tiredsville!
Ok, now that I resolved to actually post something, I've gotten here and just really really really don't feel like it.
I'll attempt it, but if I ramble, live with it... well, you do anyway.

This time next week I'll be at the Hard Rubbish Cafe in Rhymill Park chilling out after a hard day's work of facepainting at 2 soiree's... grateful to have some money again.
This Friday night is my graduation, after which I will be allowed to deal to my friends and family with fake money for about an hour - it'll be the only time I can do so, otherwise its strangers at the table. Later that evening instead of joining my classmates at the Strath across the road and getting drunk I'll head over to Rhymill and hang with my artsy crowd - a much preffered company choice... a bunch of talented performers making merry and partaking in various forms of improv delight whilst relaxing on couches under the stars and fairy lights, or cramped in a pub filled with smoke with a few dozen people you've spent the last 4 weeks in hideously close contact with getting slowly (or quite rapidly) blind drunk complete with their moronic friends and relatives (some speculative license taken there)... tough choice.
I kinda hope my classmates (those I give a damn about) don't get offended that I choose the Fringe Festival over that atmosphere, but if they do then so be it. They know by now that that's me, and hopefully some will come too :)

The next day we'll be back again in (hopefully) full creative force so if you can juggle or unicycle or facepaint or do anything remotely entertaining and I havent called you to come yet - let me know! I want our troupe to own Saturday and bring in as many folks to the Hard Rubbish Cafe as are going to the Garden of Unearthly's. Not to mention, our fans too.

No real offence to the Garden, but the folks at the Hard Rubbish are alot more personable.
Especially to us! "Anytime you want to perform, or do anything, you're welcome"?? How can I not be biased! They love us so we love them doubly back!

Then Sunday I'll be in the Rose Garden in Willunga for a couple hours facepainting, then continuing said activity back in Rhymill. I don't know which of our fans are coming to that, but either way we'll be there. Even if I'm supposed to play at Billy Baxters' that day (?) I'll hit the Fringe afterwards... I'll have a few free days after that (to recover no doubt) before I begin my first shift as a croupier - night shift too... 'hello deep end'.

They love and trust me and have enough confidence in me to know that I'll be okay on the night shift on a weekend. And if not, well we'll soon find out.
My trainer let me go at lunchtime on Friday because I had a birthday party-weekend to go to and I had to drive a few hours to get there. They said it was because I work so hard.
Yay!

I had lot of fun this weekend too. Which is good because at first I wasn't going to go, shuffling work and other commitments seemed too heavy but after a while I just said why the fuck not a weekend away will do me good, so off I went and I'm so grateful. After suffering from cabin fever with the rest of your insipid training school (insipid being the majority of anyway), with no air and no sunlight and battling back a cold and trying to squeeze more hours out of the day as possible training by day and Fringing by night, it was good to have a fun couple of days with likeminded people that love me.

We should all do that more; seek out likeminded people who love us. Time spent like that is most certainly healthy for the soul in my opinion.
On that note, I dropped into Nessa's on the way home but she was out, and Katie was out also. So instead I went home, made Eliza's bed, had some tea, accompanied Tanya to Brodie's show (damn that kid has grown up alot and has a fair slice of potential as a performer! I'm stealing him in a couple years methinks), and now I'm here about to hit the hay for I'm a tired lil pirate and I have another stupidly early start tomorrow.

Sleep tight.

Its sad when you watch a tournament on tv and tell the screen they're not dealing correctly, and then explain why.
Least I know my training is sticking.

Eleven things losers do on myspace.

I couldn't resist it.
Altered a touch to make a little more sense... and to correct the spelling of losers with two o's cos that just shits me like you wouldn't believe.

ONE
there is NO SUCH THING as a myspace tracker.
it does NOT exist. so quit posting stupid bulletins like
"OH-MY-GOD this WORKS!!!"
NO!, It doesnt.

TWO
To the people who have like 25,000 friends,
are you serious?
You're stupid.
Go play in traffic.

THREE
Don't ever post pictures and say "OMG, I'm so ugly" or "OMG, I'm so fat"
because if you were, you wouldn't post them your silly ass is just begging for compliments.
And if u do ur a freaking mongoloid.

FOUR (my fav is the last statement in this one)
NOBODY cares about threats over the internet.
Don't try to act hardcore with the keyboard.
No keyboard gangsters or keyboard thugz.
FIGHTING ONLINE is like racing in the Special Olympics; even if you win, you're still a RETARD.

FIVE
Quit crying because you're not on someones top 8.
who cares?
ITS MYSPACE!!!

SIX
Who really cares if I don't accept you as a friend?
MOVE ON!!!
Don't send me another request or message asking "what's up with you not adding me?"
I don't want you as a friend, that's what's up fruit!!!
Go kick rocks...

SEVEN
Little 6th, 7th, as well as 8th graders who have MySpace and look like sluts, and act like whores: go somewhere else because nobody wants you there.
And Parents quit blaming myspace for your kid being a hooker, she was a whore before myspace, and she'd be a whore without it! What does that say about your parenting skills? Think about it!
Ooh that one stung didn't it?

EIGHT (vicki remains indifferent to this one)
If you have decided to read this, you are a true MySpace Friend. Real friends read their bulletins.

NINE (this too)
I say you go and pass this on and maybe it will finally get through people's brains

TEN
And if you open a bulletin and it says something like repost this in 100 seconds or a ghost will rape your dog tonight,or some dead skinless girl is gonna rape your mom" QUIT BEING DUMB

ELEVEN
Myspace was created to keep up with friends. quit trying to check up on your ex... come on now people its called stalking you might as well be sitting in front of their house with binoculars... (who says i dont? -vicki)

My feet hurt
and evidently so do my fingers cos it took me ages to type that correctly.

My past week-and-a-bit has consisted mostly of hardcore training. Lots of chipping up, dropcutting, sizing in, shuffling, riffling, initial deals, and today subsequent deals, doubling, partial doubles, splitting, insurance, and even money.

On top of that we've been popquizzed up the wazoo on values of different chips, and their value in a stack of 20, what bet pays what and how much.

Can you guess where Vicki works now?

The backstage area is just Disney without ears on everything. I fit in well.

Within the first 2 days we formed a click of other eccentric loudmouths like myself, who find humour in just about anything (most of all in the signs in the cafeteria). Sad news hit us when the other girl in our newly formed, albeit tight, trainee clique was told that she didn't make the grade physically. But she's seeing if she can get into the machines area anyway.

Friday night we met up for a couple drinks at the Strath and briefly at the Apothecary as a sort of farewell.

a) Dave, Ben, Sarah & Me. b) They're scaorey.

c) I'm spunky... hey we got free drinks! So I must be! d) The ceiling is purty.
