Let's call today: 'Wednesday, 18 November 2009'
wrote in the notebook:
Today I was driving along and found a 24 yr old (looked more like 19) crying, disoriented and bloodied girl wandering down the road. She said she didn't know how she got like this, she couldn't remember. She'd been drinking, the red wine was stained all over her. She was a dark purple and blood red mess of a person.
I pulled over, sat her down, called 000, patched her up best i could with my old gym towel (the only thing in my car), and sat with her stroking her hair while she cried, waiting for the ambulance, telling her it will be okay.
I kept her talking, mostly inane details, in case I'd have to give them to the police later if she passed out or whatever, but one thing sticks in my mind:
In response to another driver stopping, I observed to her that other people are concerned about her. She replied between sobs:
"Only people who don't even know me. If you knew me, you wouldn't have stopped."
